Landscape & Outdoor Lighting Design

Outdoor lighting that does more than illuminate — uplit oaks, washed limestone, lit paths, and the long quiet evening glow of a property that reads as finished.

What it is

Outdoor Lighting — built right.

Lighting is what makes a property look like it cost what it cost — at night. Path lights for safety, uplighting on canopy trees, wall washes on limestone, accent on water features, and architectural lighting on the home itself. We design lighting layers for the way the property is actually used, then install in low-voltage durable bronze or brass fixtures wired through a smart controller.

Hill Country Relevance

Local conditions.

Hill Country properties benefit from dark-sky-aware fixtures — light directed down, not bleeding into the night sky. Comal County has some dark-sky considerations around Canyon Lake and the rural corridor; we lean into shielded fixtures and warm-color LED.

Materials & Process

How we build it.

  1. Lighting walk at dusk to see what the property actually needs.
  2. Design layers: path safety, ambient, focal, architectural.
  3. Fixture selection — bronze or brass body, warm 2700-3000K LED, dark-sky-friendly shielding.
  4. Low-voltage transformer sized to fixture load + 30% future capacity.
  5. Wiring routes hidden in bed lines or under hardscape edges.
  6. Smart controller for schedule, dimming, and zone control.
  7. Aiming session at dusk — every fixture aimed and adjusted in person.
  8. Walkthrough with the homeowner and care notes.

Common questions.

Why low-voltage instead of line-voltage outdoor lighting?

Low-voltage (12V) is safer, more flexible, easier to add to over time, and the fixtures cost less. Modern LED low-voltage delivers all the brightness needed for landscape lighting. Line-voltage outdoor is mostly for security floods and outbuildings.

How many fixtures does a typical property need?

A baseline Hill Country front yard usually needs 18-30 fixtures — path lights, 2-4 tree uplights, accent on a key wall, address light. Estates can run 50-100+ fixtures across multiple zones. Bigger isn't always better; layering matters more than count.

Will it light up the night sky?

Not with our designs. Dark-sky-friendly fixtures direct light downward and have hoods or shielding. Warm-color LED also reduces sky-glow effect compared to cool-white fixtures.

How long does outdoor lighting last?

Brass and bronze fixtures last 20+ years; aluminum 8-12. LEDs in good fixtures last 30,000-50,000 hours (15-20 years of typical use). Wire and connections are the maintenance items, not the fixtures themselves.
