Artificial Turf Installation in Bulverde & San Antonio

Artificial turf installed the way it should be — engineered base, integrated drainage, proper edging. Lasts 10-15 years, looks real, stays green through August.

What it is

Artificial Turf — built right.

Artificial turf done right is invisible from 8 feet away and works for 10-15 years. Done wrong, it pools water, smells in summer, and starts ripping at the seams in year three. The difference is base preparation, drainage, edging, and infill quality. We install premium polyethylene turf with proper base, drainage channels, and edge restraint. The visible turf is the last decision — what's under it determines how long it lasts.

Hill Country Relevance

Local conditions.

San Antonio and Hill Country summers run 100-105°F for weeks. Cheap turf gets hot enough to burn pets and bare feet — premium turf with proper infill stays usable. UV degradation is the real failure mode in our region; we install only turf rated for Texas UV.

Materials & Process

How we build it.

  1. Excavation: remove existing sod and 3-4" of soil to make room for the base.
  2. Base: compacted crushed limestone, 3-4" depth, leveled and rolled.
  3. Drainage: integrated channel under the base where slope dictates, weep edges at low points.
  4. Underlayment: shock pad optional for pet/play applications.
  5. Turf install: premium polyethylene fiber, 35-50mm pile, UV stabilized.
  6. Seams: hand-stitched and adhesive-sealed for invisible joints.
  7. Infill: silica sand or antimicrobial pet infill brushed in.
  8. Edge restraint: bender board, steel, or hardscape edge — never just rolled under.

Common questions.

How long does artificial turf last?

Premium UV-rated turf installed properly lasts 10-15 years in our climate. Cheap turf or poor installation can fail in 3-5 years — pile flatten, color fade, seam separation, drainage failure.

Is artificial turf safe for pets?

Yes, with proper infill. We use antimicrobial pet infill that drains and resists odor. Standard sand infill can hold pet waste residue — the pet-rated infill solves it.

Does artificial turf get too hot?

It runs 30-50°F warmer than natural grass in direct Texas sun. Premium turf with proper infill stays manageable; cheap turf gets dangerously hot. Shade structures, lighter-color turf, or partial natural-grass zones can mitigate.

What does artificial turf cost in Bulverde?

Installation typically runs $9-14 per square foot all-in (base, drainage, premium turf, edging, infill). Cheap installs at $5-7/sf usually skip base preparation — they fail fast.
